FAQ | Need to Know

Everything You'd Want to Know

Quick answers to the questions we hear most often.

What is included in a yacht charter with Yachts MiamiVice?
All our charters include a licensed captain, mate, fuel, water and ice for an exceptional yachting experience. This applies to local charters of 4, 6 or 8 hours. Long-term charters and non-local charters may have additional fuel charges — these are discussed and confirmed before booking.
Can I choose where the yacht goes? What are the most popular spots?
Absolutely — your charter is your day on the water. You're welcome to suggest your preferred route, and our captain will work with you to design an itinerary that fits your group's mood, the duration of your charter, and the conditions that day.

Most popular Miami stops
The exact route depends on the marina where your yacht is docked and how long you've booked, but our captains regularly visit:

· Star Island & Hibiscus Island — cruising past celebrity mansions
· Nixon's former estate on Key Biscayne
· Haulover Sandbar — Miami's famous swim and party spot
· Stiltsville — the iconic stilt houses in Biscayne Bay
· Downtown Miami skyline & Bayside Marketplace
· Key Biscayne, Virginia Key & No Name Harbor
· South Beach coastline for sunset views

Itinerary depends on charter duration
Shorter charters (4 hours) typically focus on one or two highlights near your starting marina. Longer charters (6–8 hours) allow for multiple stops, swimming breaks, and more distant locations.

Beyond the local Miami area
If you'd like to head to Key Largo, Bimini, Fort Lauderdale, or anywhere outside the standard local Miami waters, additional fuel charges may apply. We'll discuss and confirm any extras with you before your charter, so there are no surprises.

Safety always comes first
Final approval of any itinerary rests with the captain. If weather, sea conditions, or other safety factors require an adjustment, the captain will recommend the best alternative to keep your day enjoyable and safe. Their decision is always made with your group's wellbeing as the top priority.
What is the maximum capacity of guests in a yacht?
Yacht maximum guest capacity details are available on each yacht listing. ℹ️ By U.S. Coast Guard law, the maximum capacity per yacht (all sizes) is 13 people — it's illegal to exceed this number on a single charter.

For groups of 13 or more guests, we can arrange two or more yachts that sail together and tie up side-by-side, so your entire group can enjoy the experience as one.
How do I book a yacht on Yachts MiamiVice?
You can submit a booking inquiry directly through our website in just a few minutes. Use the filters to find the yacht you'd like, add any add-ons, fill in your contact and charter details, and submit.

No payment is taken at the time of inquiry. Our team reviews your request against live availability, and one of our agents will contact you to finalize payment in your preferred method. A 50% deposit confirms your booking; the balance is due 24 hours before the charter.
When is my payment collected? Is it refundable?
Once we confirm yacht and add-on availability, our agent will reach out to collect a 50% deposit to lock in your booking. The remaining balance is due 24 hours before the charter. We accept Zelle, Apple Pay, Venmo, Cash App, and credit card via Square (a 4% processing fee applies to card and select methods). For detailed information about refunds, please review our Cancellation Policy and Terms & Conditions.
Why is there a 4% credit card convenience charge?
The 4% fee covers third-party processing costs charged by our payment partners. It applies to credit card payments via Square, as well as Venmo and Cash App. Zelle and Apple Pay are free of any processing fee.

When you pay by credit card, your privacy and security are paramount — we rely on Square, a leading global payment processor. None of your sensitive card information is stored on our servers, and we maintain full compliance with rigorous PCI standards.
What is supplied aboard?
Every one of our yachts comes fully equipped with complimentary water, ice and a cooler. Additional details are available on each yacht's listing page.

If you have specific preferences, feel free to bring your own provisions on board. Your comfort and choice are our priority.

Entertainment & Extras

Is airport or hotel transportation arranged for guests?
Yachts MiamiVice offers luxury transportation through our partner company Metakinis — Sprinters, limousines and SUVs. You can add it as an add-on when booking your charter on our website.
Can I have food and drinks served aboard?
Yachts MiamiVice provides a range of premium services — food catering, private chefs, and skilled bartenders/mixologists. Our agents can even arrange the delivery of your preferred beverages before departure. Simply choose the add-ons of your preference and we'll have everything ready for you.

You're also more than welcome to bring your own food and drinks onboard — whatever makes your charter feel most like your own.

For multi-day charters, you'll complete a meal preferences sheet to customize your menu — ensuring your charter is tailored precisely to your tastes.
Can I play my own music on the yacht?
Yes — every yacht in our fleet has a Bluetooth sound system. Just connect your phone and play your own playlist, podcasts, or whatever sets the mood for your group.

Quick tip: we recommend creating an offline playlist before you board, since cell signal can be patchy when you're farther from shore.
Can we swim during the charter?
Absolutely — swimming is one of the highlights of any Miami charter. As long as the weather and sea conditions allow, your captain will take you to the best spots with the cleanest, calmest waters for swimming.

Popular swim stops include the Haulover Sandbar, the turquoise flats around Stiltsville, and quieter coves near Key Biscayne. Your captain knows the waters well and will pick the best location based on the day's conditions and your charter route.

Safety always comes first. The captain has the final call on where and when it's safe to swim — but rest assured, every effort is made to give you that perfect dip in the Miami blue.
What is a Charter Agreement?
A Charter Agreement is a legally binding document involving the broker, customer, yacht owner and crew. It outlines vital charter details, including the yacht's specs, cruise date, destinations, pickup and dropoff specifics, insurance coverage and cancellation policies — ensuring a clear understanding of the charter terms and obligations for all parties involved.
Do I have to tip the crew?
It's customary to tip the crew and captain after your charter. Yachts MiamiVice suggests a 15% tip based on the charter fee. You can also give extra tips directly to the captain, who will distribute them fairly among the crew.

For international charters, tipping upon disembarkation is advised.

Check the yacht details — some yachts have the tip included, but you can always give additional tips directly to the crew.
Do I need a boating license to rent a yacht in Miami?
It depends on the birthday of the main charterer (the person signing the charter agreement):

· Born before January 1, 1988 → No license required
· Born on or after January 1, 1988 → Florida boating safety course required

New Florida Law (Effective July 1, 2025):
Florida now requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 to complete an approved boating safety course before:

Signing a bareboat charter agreement
Renting a yacht or any powered vessel
Riding or operating a jet ski

This law is part of a statewide effort to improve boating safety — especially important in Miami, where boating traffic is heavy.

Step 1 — Get Your Boating Certificate:
As part of Florida's updated Bareboat regulations, primary renters born on or after January 1, 1988 are required to complete a quick online test to get the Boating Safety Temporary Certificate.

Take it online here: boattests101.com

Quick Recap — The Course is Simple:
· $13.95 total cost
· 100% online
· Takes about 10 minutes
· Accepted instantly by Florida authorities

Once you pass, please send us the certificate before your trip. If you need help, reach out to our concierge and we'll guide you through it.
